ABOUT ME

Om Prakash Mathur is Visiting Senior Fellow, Centre for Social and Economic Progress (CSEP) Research Foundation and Senior Fellow, Global Cities Institute, University of Toronto.  He has served from 2014-2019 as a Senior Fellow and Chair, Urban Studies, at the Institute of Social Sciences, New Delhi and held from 1992 to 2011 the position of IDFC Chair Professor at the National Institute of Public Finance and Policy, New Delhi. Om Prakash Mathur was Director, National Institute of Urban Affairs (1984-1992), and Distinguished Professor, from 2011 to 2014. 

 

From 1975 to 1978 Om Prakash Mathur was on the technical staff of the United Nations Development Programme  heading the Decentralization Programme of the Imperial Government of Iran, and later (1978-84) serving as a senior faculty at the United Nations Centre for Regional Development, Nagoya, Japan.  He has served as a member of the UNDP’s Advisory Panel on Urban Management Programme, a member of h UN-Habitat’s Advisory Group of Experts on Decentralization, and a member of the ADB-GIZ Advisory Panel of Cities Development Initiative for Asia (CDIA).  He has served as a short-term consultant to the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, and UNICEF.  Om Prakash Mathur served as Editor, Environment and Urbanization Asia (2010-2014), Sage, Asia and a member of the Editorial Board, Review of the Urban and Regional Studies (2009-2012), Japan.  He is currently a member of the Editorial Board of Urbanisation, a bi-annual, peer-reviewed journal, Sage Publications.

 

He was a member of the National Review Committee on Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), headed by the former Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, a member of the High Powered Expert Committee on Urban Infrastructure Investment Requirements and a member of the Advisory Panel of McKinsey Global Institute (India). 

 

Om Prakash Mathur has written extensively on urbanization, urban governance, and urban finance, and authored several books and a number of papers published in peer-reviewed journals and books.  He holds a Master's degree in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics and attended graduate courses at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University, Cambridge, USA.
